D is for Daddy Day

What a fun and special day for the kids to get to have their dad's /dad figure's come to preschool with them. It is so fun for them to show their dad's what we have been doing at school.  They generally talk about this for several weeks following. I also have fun seeing the dad's interactions with the kids! Here are a bunch of the things we did:

D is for Diggers and Dumptrucks (you could also add dolls/dimes/fake diamonds/etc). For the filler this week I used polished aquarium rock filler and large polished rocks because it has a really fun texture.  This is one of my favorite fillers to use.
D is for Decorate (Christmas trees tis the season)
 Playtime with dads and grandpa's.

D is for roll the Dice and Drop the Dime in the Dumptruck.  Quite the mouthful.  Great for counting and fine motor skills.
D is for dots.  We used this dotty play foam made up of colored dots this week during our play time to re-emphasize the letter d and to have some good old squishy fun.  Also great for strengthening hand muscles which are important for fine motor development.

Dissolve science activity.  I really wish I could have had a picture of this all set up and in action, but we were just having too great of a time to stop and snap a shot.  For this science activity we would predict which foods/spices would dissolve and then let the kids test them and check their results.  The children would place the tag from under the item they tested onto the sheet that says yes/no yes meaning it did dissolve and no it did not.  I added a thumbs up/down picture next to the words for the little ones who don't know the words yes/no.
Dancing on D's with Dad.  We placed lowercase and capital d's all around my oval rug and let the kids dance around while playing the song "Rudolph the Red Nosed ReinDEER". When the music stopped they would find a D to stand on.

Dad Graph.  For this Graph the kids got to decide whether they preferred to read a story with their dad, play ball, go to the park, or something different.  We calculated our results at the end.

Dots on Dogs.  We did a simple counting activity that reiterated recognition of the letter and number of the week.  D & 4.  Also peeling the stickers off and placing them on the dogs is good for fine motor skill development.
