To the kids this is one of the favorite days of the year because they get to bring dad to school with them! This year just a few of the activities we did were Digging dino eggs (cool baking soda & vinegar science with a surprise dino inside), Dump truck counting game, Decorating Gingerbread Houses, and a Dino sensory tub.

D is for Dinosaurs
For art we made handprint/do-a-dot dinos! I thought they turned out really cute and I love how each kid expresses themselves through art so differently.
D is for December
We had fun making patterns, counting and sorting with Christmas Erasers. This was one of the patterns we made together.

D is for Dads
So for our D unit in December we like to invite the dad's to come spend the day with their child at preschool. I know this is a HUGE sacrifice for many of the dad's, who have to take time off work and such to come. However, I will say that this is probably one of the best days of the year for the kids to get their dads to come spend a full two hours alone with them showing them what they have been doing at school, creating with them, playing with them, reading together etc. This is such a treat for the kids and so I am very grateful for the support we get from our awesome dad's! This year we did some letter d and number 4 activities since that is the unit we were currently on. We did a manipulative activity "dot's on dogs" by counting and placing small dot stickers on the appropriate numbered dog. We played doggy, doggy who stole your bone, we rolled dice and then dropped that number of dimes in the dump truck by placing them on our nose, aiming and trying to get them in the back of the truck, we had diggers and dirt in our sensory tub, and we did a science experiment called does it dissolve where we predicted which household spices and cooking items would dissolve then tried it out to see what result we would get. We then graphed our findings and I put out magnifying glasses for the kids to observe for the next day or so. Such a fun day that I'm sure will be remembered for a long time!

D is for Daddy Day & Dinosaurs
What a treat to have the dad's come and spend this time playing and learning with their kids. This is a day that is talked about the rest of the year! For our daddy day this year we counted using Dumptrucks and Unifix cubes. I found this game HERE. We also Decorated Mini Gingerbread houses using Graham Crackers and milk cartons. I thought this would be a fun activity to have the kids do with their dad's. We also had a Dinosaur themed sensory tub and Did a science experiment using homeade Dino Eggs with toy Dino's. The eggs looked a little questionable, but were so much fun and I let the kids keep the dino's after they "hatched" which they were ecstatic about! These are made using Baking Soda, water & food coloring. They hatch by having the kids spray vinegar on them. We used a toothbrush to help open them once they were close. You can learn more about the experiment HERE. We also played a game called Stay out of the Swamp. This is played by taking two pieces of rope and either laying them parallel or forming kind of an oval. You then tell the kids that inside the rope are some dinosaurs in the swamp. We don't want them to chomp our little toes so we have to try to jump over the swamp. Once they have mastered it you can spread out the rope bigger. You keep doing this until it is too far apart for the kids to jump over. We also did our usual morning routine, stories, songs, playtime etc. It was just a regular day only they got to have their dad's with us.
