Volcanoes

For art time, we obviously painted volcanoes.  They involved a lot of paint, glue and glitter...doesn't get better than that!

Erupting fun!

I had to make this volcano using the idea I found at the bottom of the page HERE.  The pictures as awesome as they are don't begin to reflect the excitement it brought the kids!

Scientists at Work

The kids got to experiment on their own with a pretty thick layer of baking soda, drops of food coloring dispersed all over the baking soda and then a cup of vinegar with eyedroppers to squirt on the baking soda/food coloring mixture.  Pretty exciting for the kids! Mini volcanoes!

Volcano Time

This is one of my favorite science experiments to do with the kids just for the sheer excitement I see in their faces!  I also get to hear a lot of gasps, oooh's, ahhh's, and squeals of delight! It really never loses it's excitement! We did this experiment few times this week and got to experience similar reactions when you combine baking soda and vinegar in different ways.

V is for Volcano Punch

For snack today we had fun making volcano punch and watching it "blow it's top".  This was made by adding carbonated red punch to vanilla ice-cream.  This was a yummy and fun learning experience for all, including me...it was pretty tasty stuff!

V is for Volcanoes

What a wonderful experience the kids got this week for sensory tub!  I sprinkled a layer of Baking Soda all over the bottom of the tub and then dotted different colors of food coloring all over the soda and added baby food jars filled with vinegar and eye droppers.  How fun is that!!! The kids had an absolute ball making mini-volcanos and seeing all the different colors "erupt"!

V is for Volcano Science

The old vinegar and baking soda chemical reaction is another classic that NEVER gets boring!   I always look forward to this lesson because the kids love it so much!  Lots of squeals, ooh's and ahh's every time.  This year was not an exception! Tons of fun and great for hands on learning!  We used red and yellow food coloring to make bright orange "hot lava".  We also read lots about volcano's for this unit and sang some volcano songs etc.
