A Busy Week

N is for build your own nest sensory tub, complete with worms, chicks and eggs!  We also used noodles in a lot of our activities to learn a variety of skills.  Below we are using them to make patterns.  We had so much going on that this was pretty much all I had time to take pictures of.

N is for Noodle Necklace & Patterning

These are always fun to make with preschoolers!  I just use plastic lacing material taped to the table then have the kids string it however they like.  The nice thing about the plastic lacing material is that it doesn't fray. This makes it so that the kids are able to bead the necklace with little to no assistance. I love how they all come up with such different designs.  Some use patterns, some like all the same beads, some make them long, others short. Creativity in action! We also used patterning grids to make patterns with different types of noodles (Ex: Tubes, wheels, shells, elbow).

N is for Noodle Sensory Play

This was super fun for the kids to get to make believe and play with noodles.  I threw in pots, pans, dishes and utensils to create, imagine and cook up a good time!

N is for Noodles

We made patterns using noodles today.  The pattern we did here in this picture was Tube, Tube, Tube, Shell.

N the Naughty Newt

Everyone always loves 'N' the naughty newt!  Maybe it's because he helps us remember that none of us are perfect all the time or maybe it's because we get to paint with real nail polish however we like all over our paper, whatever the reason, this is a fun part of preschool for all of us...and those fumes, oh man, good thing we have windows!  I bought the book with the fun activity pages HERE.

Whose Nose?

This is a funny little game where we cover up each student with a sheet except for their nose.  We do this without the other kids looking.  After the child is all covered up the other kids try to guess who is underneath the sheet by looking at only their nose.  Lots of giggles!

N is for Noodles & Numbers

Our Noodle/Number Sensory Tub Play
 Noodle Patterns
 Noodle count and sort page
We graphed which noodle we liked better.

N is for Numbers

I got the idea for doing number art using Jasper John's Techniques HERE.  Some of theirs were done with oils and were done by older children.  I was pleased with the results!
Counting noodles on number cards-great for one to one correspondence in a very visual way.
Adding Unifex cubes. Also, a very visual demonstration for adding two numbers together.
Bears in the cave subtraction game.  Idea found HERE.
More Number Grid art inspired from art activity found HERE.
We practiced subtraction using magnetic numbers and counting dots.  I found this activity HERE.

Newspaper N's

Today we spent some time looking through "newspapers" (or magazines since we don't get the newspaper). What were we looking for you ask?  Why the letter 'N' my friends.  We may or may not have sneaked a peek at the toys, animals, and kids stuff as well, but we really did get the main idea.  I guess I made it way too tempting using such fun kids magazines.

N is for Noodle Necklaces

Clearly a fun activity and an excellent way to hone in on those fine motor skills!  Such a great activity for preschool aged children! Some of the kids did patterns with theirs as well.

N is for Noodle Patterns

Today for our patterning we used heart shaped noodles and did red/red/tan patterns.  The kids did wonderfully on this project!

N is for Nest

I'm a little bit proud to admit that I came up with these birdies & nests-well sort of.  I got the idea somewhere else, but entirely changed them around to work with what I had in my craft supply.  The kids were very excited and I thought they turned out pretty darn cute!  I love the big bulgy eyes, made with a pom-pom and puffy paint.  It was fun because we also got to talk about nests and how birds create their homes using things found in nature.

Whose Nose?

Okay so this just makes me laugh a little too much and I think the kids felt the same way!  They all loved taking turns trying to guess whose darling nose was poking through the sheet.

Noodle Painting

How great is this??? Painting with a noodle!  Hilarious! I think the kids thought I had lost my noodle (haha) when I presented this idea.  I'm pretty sure they had never done this before based on their cute little reactions!  Needless to say, it was a good time.

Noodles Sensory Tub

Oodles and OODLES of noodles!   How fun that we got to play with our food today in this big old mess of squishiness!

N is for Noodles

Today we used noodles for math and counting.  This is a good hands on learning activity.

Valentine's Necklaces

We made some V-day necklaces out of straws, paper hearts, beads, etc. just for fun...well mostly. This is a great activity for fine motor skill development which is so important.
