Scat the Magic Cat-He knows how to change his colors which is SO cool!

Color patterning

Rainbow fish-Size sorting

Rainbow song

Red day-Stamping

Color Dishes-we washed them with our friends for bonding time

Giant color sorting mat

Mouse in a house-Color game

Who's missing? Fun get to know you game.  We used a green sheet for "green day"

Singing Rainbow Song with our friends

Color button sorting game

Color Ice-cream cones game

Getting to know you graph- We did eye colors and hair type

Color science using milk, dawn dish soap, and food coloring.  This experiment is so MAGICAL!  Try it! You just add a few drops food coloring to milk, then drip some dawn into it using a Q-tip.

The funnest sensory activity EVER!!! Color mixing! Pure entertainment with LOTS of learning!

Primary color mixing science

Look how mesmerized they are!! I got lots of ooohs and ahhhs!

Gummy bear color/counting song and game

"Blue Day" scarf dance to "I'm Blue!"  This was popular and has been requested several times since!!

Exploding Treasure Chests

This is a fun Science activity using vinegar, baking soda, jello, and small trinkets.  I mixed three parts baking soda, one part water, and enough Jello to color the mixture.  I put the trinkets in all the sections of an ice cube tray then covered with the mixture.   I froze it overnight.  In preschool, I gave each child one "treasure chest" and let them squirt vinegar on it to watch it "explode".  They got to keep whatever "treasure" they found inside!  Very fun! For more detailed instructions how to make your own go HERE.

Worm Science

We did some scientific testing and made some observations about what happens to gummy worms if they are left overnight in vinegar and also in water. The kids made some fantastic observations and enjoyed looking at them throughout the week (we left them out to track any new changes).

W is for Worm

We had some very excited (understatement) kids this week about our new worm friends.  Not all of them were as excited about holding them, but most wanted to at least touch them and see what they felt like.  We voted on names for our friends during class (Graph style of course).  The final verdict was Werner, Wormie, and Ketchup-Boris.  We had fun observing them throughout the week!   We wrote down our observations on the white board together.

W is for Worm Sensory Tub

For this sensory tub I used shredded brown paper for the dirt and pipe cleaners cut in thirds and shaped in wormlike designs.  I added magnets to the box and let the kids try to "catch" the worms.  Bonus is that besides it being a fun sensory and dramatic play experience they also learn a bit about magnetism.

Umbrella Art

These turn out seriously beautiful every year! They are made by using shaving cream and food coloring. This is similar to what we did HERE.

S is for Salt Watercoloring

We first painted pictures using watercolors and then I let the kids sprinkle on some salt to see what kind of a reaction it made and how it changed the art.  I really love this experiment! The other picture is a random picture of one of our cute students practicing using a ten frame at toy time.

S is for Solar System

I love this unit!  We have a great time exploring and learning about Space and our very own Solar System with lots of hands on learning activities and art projects. We had a solar system themed Sensory Tub, we counted Star Fighters, built our own rockets (while practicing sight words),  went stargazing for letter stars, made "moons" using a flour/paint combo for an awesome texture and made craters using milk top lids. We also did some real rocket science using a balloon!  The kids LOVED this one of course!

M is for Mom Day

This is our other most looked forward day of the year along with daddy day!  We followed our mouse unit and played a counting game inspired by the book "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie", we made mini m & m "cookies" another counting activity, we did a marshmallow experiment, made a mouse craft, played with marbles in the sensory tub and much more! The marshmallow activity was a hit for several days later and some of the observations the kids made were that the marshmallows in juice turned purple, the ones in milk lightened and swelled, the ones in water stayed closest to original color and shrunk, the ones in vinegar partially disintegrated on the bottom, the ones in soda lightened even more. After an extra two weeks of observing the kids noticed mold growing on all of them except for the soda and vinegar.  We talked about why they thought those two didn't mold.  We thought maybe acids or bacteria killing agents had something to do with it.
