Some of the kids playing "Mr. & Mrs. Brooksby" during free play time and practicing math concepts using ten frames.  I tried hard not to laugh.  The dialogue was seriously hilarious! I was just happy to see that they are enjoying learning!

S is for Salt Watercoloring

We first painted pictures using watercolors and then I let the kids sprinkle on some salt to see what kind of a reaction it made and how it changed the art.  I really love this experiment! The other picture is a random picture of one of our cute students practicing using a ten frame at toy time.

Stampers

This was great for so many reasons!  It was an open ended art project that combined fine motor skills, with letter and number recognition, make-believe play, group social skills, sharing, and sensory.  I'm positive there are more, but you get the idea!

Working Together

I love when the kids use teamwork to work together or solve a problem or to enjoy an activity together.  This is one of the most important parts of preschool in my opinion!  Learning to work well with people is a skill that is useful in almost all areas of life! The better we can learn to communicate with others and master our social skills the more successful we will be as adults!

H is for House

This week we played a game called "Blow my House down".  For this game I had the kids take turns reading the sight words on the bricks.  For each word they knew they could build a part of the "house".  When we were all done building our house as a class we all got to knock it down, and we all know that is the best part!  We also played hide and hop to the H's.  I hid capital and lowercases all around the room and then we all hopped around looking for them.  We played a counting 'hot' chocolate game using real marshmallows that we got to eat when we were done.  We also played sound bingo where I played different sounds.  When the kids heard the sound being played they looked on their bingo board for the picture of the object that made the same sound.  If they had it they could put a bingo marker on it.  We played until everyone got a blackout. The rest of the pictures are some of the things we have been doing in class. Now that we have learned the digraphs ch, sh, th, and wh I decided to add in qu and ph.  The kids are doing great and seem to enjoy learning them. We are also still using our sight word books with witchy fingers for pointing and each day we do some paperwork to practice phonics, math, writing and coloring skills.

Magnet Board

I love everything about this!  I think it is so great to see the kids using their imaginations, making up/retelling stories and plain having a good time using our storyboard figures.

Playtime

I had to get this pic of the kids building a tall tower.  This is often a favorite toy time activity.  I could hear them all squealing and giggling about "How High" they made their tower.

Playtime

I love that some of the kids are loving writing so much that this is what they choose to do during free play time.  I couldn't be more happy that the kids are having fun learning!  This is what makes me feel rewarded as a teacher!  One of my biggest goals as a teacher is to help the kids get excited about learning!

Playdough Letters

I gave the kids play dough, rollers and letter stampers to explore and create whatever they liked.  Most the kids loved this, but I did have one little boy tell me that the letter stampers were "not a very fun" tool.  Ha, I love how honest kids are.  I guess I have to agree, that it is much more fun to play with play dough other ways, but it never hurts to throw a few letters in and have a different type of play dough learning experience for those that enjoy that kind of thing.  I'm all for variety in learning.

F is for Faux Snowball Fight

What kid doesn't love a good snowball fight, especially when it doesn't hurt and isn't freezing cold.  Well my friends, this is what we had and oh my did we have a grand old time!

Playtime

We have been enjoying our new classroom and having fun playing together.  I have more than enjoyed watching the children explore, create, and imagine!
