Q is for Quesadilla (Mexico Unit)

Just a few ways we celebrated learning about the letter Q were making quesadillas for snack, dot painting the Mexican flag, and making our own Sombrero's.

Q is for Quesadilla's (Mexico Theme)

We studied about Mexico during our Q is for Quesadilla's week.  We sponge painted the Mexican Flag.  This is a fun time to compare similarities and differences to our flag. We also made Sombrero's.  These were a hit with the kids and most of them spent a lot of time perfecting them!
Our Mexican themed Sensory tub using beans and the main colors from their flag.

Letter Q

Q is for Quarters.  We counted & sorted money.  This was a great time to help the kids differentiate between the coins .
The Marriage ceremony of Q and U complete with wedding costumes, flowers, the wedding march song, and kisses-don't worry they were chocolate!  Q and U will forevermore be qu together.  These 2 were thrilled to be a big part of the occasion and the other kids took turns during playtime reenacting the event!
Q is for Quesadillas.  We tied in the Mexico theme along with this weeks learning unit.
More coin fun using Quarters.  We made patterns with them on our patterning cards.

Jumping Beans Sight Word Game

For this active learning game I first taught the kids about Mexican Jumping Beans then told them we would get to pretend to be jumping beans.  I then had them take turns picking one bean out of the can.  If the bean had a sight word on it they would get to read it.  If the bean had a smiley face on it the whole class would get to stand up and jump around like a jumping bean.
