We took turns graphing our favorite zoo animal.  Tigers and monkeys were popular and tied for first place, next came zebra's and last was another animal that was not listed.  Elephants were not a favorite in our class.

Counting 'O's

We took some time to count (and eat a few) O's.  The kids are really getting to be pro's at counting and practicing one to one correspondence!

M is for Mice

This week we learned all about mice.  As part of the unit we did several activities relating to mice.  We learned how to draw a mouse and they turned out stinking adorable if I don't say so myself. We have some amazing budding artists! We also made felt mice puppets to play make believe with .  We sampled some cheese and graphed our favorite kind as a class.  Don't mind my horrible drawings on the white board.  Eik! I used picture and letter clues to show what kind of cheeses we sampled (String, Parmesan, Cheddar & Cream Cheese).  As you can see cheddar was most popular and cream cheese was least.

K is for Kangaroo Graph

We used kernals to graph how many times the different colored Kangaroos were rolled on the dice.  This is a wonderful math activity in so many ways including counting, comparing, and measurement.

Ant Graphing

For math we played a game called spin and graph ants where you spin the paper clip on an ant spinner and then graph whichever colored ant the clip lands on. Red was the winner with the most spins, and green was the least.

October Patterning

I have all kinds of fun Halloween trinkets to "play" math with!  We used them for counting, graphing, sorting, and patterning which are all important mathematical concepts.

Shape Graphing

The kids brought items from home to sort and graph by shape.  It is always great to combine home and school learning as well as use everyday objects for better retention.

Johnny Appleseed Week

This is always a fun unit!  We taste tested different kinds of apples and graphed different colored apples (red, yellow & green) on our large graphing mat.  We also tasted and graphed our favorite type of apple to eat (granny smith, gala, and yellow),  We finger painted apple trees and did lots of puzzles, alphabet/phonics games to go a long with the theme as well.

Learning Games

Below is a number matching game that is especially fun because you get to "fish" the matches out of the water.  We also used our counting grid to count "seashells" as part of our all about my summer theme-great for one to one correspondence!  The last picture is a game called knock-knock-who am I?  Not only is it a great way to learn names and get to know our new friends, but it is great for audio discrimination and listening skills!

Y is for Yucky & Yummy Graph

After we learned all about our taste buds, the sense of taste, and tasted and sorted food from the sour, sweet, salty and bitter groups we graphed our results.  We found that the most popular thing we tasted was sweet (surprise, surprise) marshmallows, followed by sour gummy worms (again no big shocker). The kids as a whole were not a huge fan of pita chips and grapefruit.

Spring Fun!

Feed Lucky Leprechaun Game.  I thought I was clever for making this one up!  Basically, you just use the melon scoop to "Feed Lucky" by scooping only the green marbles "Leprechaun treats" into the tray.

I also made up this game.  I think I've been a part of  Pinterest enough now that I'm starting to come up with my own ideas!  This is a game where you try to build the rainbow by uncovering the rainbow from the cloudy sky.  You transfer the cotton balls out of the cups and into the large white bowl to form a cloud in the right spot and reveal a beautiful rainbow.

 Rainbow graphing with flower beads.

Rainbow weaving by using rainbow colored yarn and weaving shelves.

A lesson about parts of a plant (spring unit).  We got to taste all the different parts for snack time. I found the worksheet HERE. We had dip for kids that love dipping.
