Money Math

Who ever knew how great ice cube trays could be for teaching!  This is a wonderful way to practice math and/or patterning at home.  Today we did adding money.  We basically counted each coin one by one into the sections using adding.  I would say a number such as 4  and we would then count four into the tray.  Then I would tell the children "plus" 4 and we would then count four more into the tray.  Then I would say "equals" and we would count all of them together.  I wrote the problem down on a small white board for them to visually see the problem with the plus and equal signs.  You can do the same with other objects and with subtraction problems.
