Curds & Whey Science

I cannot tell you how much I love doing science activities with preschoolers!  Kids this age are so engaged in the science experiments and so excited to see what happens that it makes it really fun as a teacher to see their reactions!  This is a very simple experiment to teach kids what curds and whey is.  We had gone over the nursery rhyme Little Miss Muffet as part of our Spider Unit and since curds and whey are kind of a thing of the past, we all thought it would be fun to see what they were, myself included.  It turns out the curds are the bottom chunky part and the whey is the liquid on the top.  It is made by taking a glass of milk and adding a couple Tablespoons of vinegar and then stirring.  The kids had fun helping add the ingredients and each child got a turn to stir.  They especially had fun observing it throughout the day!
