This is a fun tradition I had growing up that I still remember. Since we had a "traditional" Thanksgiving at preschool last year, I thought we would change things up a bit and have a turkey party instead. We made our turkeys by taking an apple (or orange) and poking 5 toothpics in the back for tail feathers, and 1 on front for the head/neck. They can add feet too, but it's a little tricky to get them to work properly so we just stuck with the former. Then you have them push marshmallows/gumdrops/berries/bananas/raisins/cheerios/etc onto the toothpicks until it looks like a turkey. I had all the kids bring in a small bag of items they could decorate/create their turkeys with and then I just let the kids use their imaginations to design their own turkey. When they were finished they got to eat them for snack time. Their were so many yummy and fun things to choose from and they turned out darling. Some even used their patterning skills when placing items. The kids spent a pretty good amount of time creating and eating these. I hope this is a memory they will enjoy for years to come!
