G is for Garden Science

Science is always popular in my classes so I try to do a lot of experimentation relating to the unit we are working on.  This week we did celery soaked in water with different colored food coloring drops.  We did red and blue.  The kids made lots of predictions of what would happen, including my favorite response: "It will explode!" haha! If you guessed that was a boy answer, then you are correct.  One of the children predicted that it would change into the colors that were in the water and after observing a few days, that is pretty much what happened.   If you haven't done this experiment I would recommend it as a great way to show kids the movement of the water through the plants veins and tubes
