Exploding Treasure Chests

This is a fun Science activity using vinegar, baking soda, jello, and small trinkets.  I mixed three parts baking soda, one part water, and enough Jello to color the mixture.  I put the trinkets in all the sections of an ice cube tray then covered with the mixture.   I froze it overnight.  In preschool, I gave each child one "treasure chest" and let them squirt vinegar on it to watch it "explode".  They got to keep whatever "treasure" they found inside!  Very fun!
